Dr. Edwin Gomez began his educational career teaching grades K-8, where he cultivated a deep understanding of the diverse needs of students and families. As a principal, he served in communities with varied socioeconomic landscapes, successfully leading a school out of Program Improvement status. This transformative achievement earned the school a nomination for the prestigious National Blue Ribbon Award, highlighting his unwavering commitment to academic excellence and equity.

Dr. Gomez has also served as a district Chief Academic Officer, overseeing curriculum and instruction, and as a Superintendent for both the Adelanto Elementary School District and the Coachella Valley Unified School District. These leadership roles provided him with extensive experience in guiding districts toward innovation, collaboration, and student success.

As the 13th Riverside County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Gomez has dedicated his career to ensuring that every student is prepared for college, career, and life. His tenure has been marked by the launch of five transformative initiatives aimed at mental health support, financial literacy, literacy by fifth grade, equity and inclusive practices, and foster youth success. Under his leadership, Riverside County has achieved:

  • Expanded Career Pathways: Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs in high-demand fields such as aviation, medical, automotive, and culinary arts

  • Mental Health Support: Generated more than 25 million dollars to support students with mental health support

  • Exceptional Graduation Rates: Achieving the highest graduation rate among the largest counties in California

  • Higher Education Access: Partnerships with colleges and universities, including the CSU direct admission program for all Riverside County high school students

  • Innovative Facilities: Developing inclusive playgrounds, opening the Riverside Conference Center, and breaking ground on the largest conference center in the Coachella Valley

Dr. Gomez’s dedication to education is supported by his strong academic foundation, holding a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Studies from Pitzer College, a multiple subject teaching credential from the University of Redlands, and both a Master’s and Doctorate from California State University, San Bernardino.

Together, we’ve accomplished so much—but the work is not done. Dr. Gomez remains steadfast in his commitment to ensuring that every student in Riverside County has the tools, opportunities, and support they need to thrive.
